Portait pics on shutter landscape

hello all, title says it all. I am interested in the shutter template, but there are only landscape pics in the demo. I wonder what happens to portrait pics:

  • are they cropped to keep a landscape ratio?
  • are they resized with an horrible effect?
  • do they saty as they are, thus creating empty spaces around?

It’s an HTML template, so, portraits will be displayed without any changes to the image, style might be changed a little but it can be styled differently as well.
