Blog posts in a grid in the home page widget.

I’m working on a build at the moment where I wand the blog posts to appear on the home page in a grid. Say 4 posts across the width of the page.

With the current “Recent Posts” widget there does not seem to be any customisability. I can set it to show the most recent 4 but they are added one below the other.

Is there a way to lay them out in a grid?
